Guest lecture of Alumnus Daan Duijm

Daan's lecture addressed ‘Safety and Leading International Teams in the Attractions Industry'. In his presentation, he shared the importance of safety in theme- and water parks. He provided insights on how to develop safety protocols and how to deal with operational safety issues. In Vietnam, he trained staff who were going to operate a rollercoaster but had never seen one. A week earlier, he also talked (online) about his leadership experience in different cultures. 

Daan has worked in Dubai, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, among other places. He noted that the cultural differences are significant. The theme park industry is often new to these cultures, and people have different perceptions of hospitality and leadership.

Daan currently works as Director of Entertainment Asset Strategy at Qiddiya (Saudi Arabia). Qiddaya is the major development of Tourism and Leisure in the middle east (see: Qiddiya Investment Company). Daan works on the development of theme parks in this new big entertainment and tourism hub.
